Fluharty to start as Blue Jays open series vs. Yankees in the Bronx

Mason Fluharty will get the start as the Toronto Blue Jays look to open their final series of the season against the rival New York Yankees with a win on Friday.

It will mark a fourth start of the season for Fluharty, who has appeared in 64 games out of the bullpen. The 25-year-old lefty has a 5-1 record with a 3.71 ERA this season and a 1.24 WHIP over 51 innings.

Fluharty did not allow a hit to the Yankees while pitching an inning and two thirds over two appearances as the Blue Jays picked a series win last weekend.

The Blue Jays relievers enter the bullpen day well rested after only Spencer Miles and Louis Varland pitched Thursday in a 5-1 win over the Tamp Bay Rays to clinch a series win against the best team in the American League.

With a 7-3 record over their past 10 games, the Blue Jays have surged to sit just a half game back in the AL wild-card race entering Friday night.

Ace Dylan Cease is projected to take the mound Saturday against the Yankees, with trade-deadline addition Jose Soriano set to make his fourth start as a Blue Jay on Sunday.
