Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Andres Gimenez is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s series-opener against the Kansas City Royals after hurting his left hamstring last week.
Gimenez incurred the injury against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday afternoon and did not play during the weekend series against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
Gimenez was injured while attempting to leg out a softly hit ground ball to the right side and pulled up gingerly just before reaching first. He doubled over after the play and limped off the field with manager John Schneider and the training staff. He as later diagnosed with left hamstring tightness.
The 27-year-old infielder is slashing .240/.284/.356 with eight home runs and 49 RBI in 123 games so far this season, his second with the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays begin play Tuesday two games out of the final American League wild-card spot with Max Scherzer getting the ball at home against Seth Lugo.
