Next week’s Home Run Derby in Philadelphia has a third contestant.
Kansas City Royals outfielder Jac Caglianone announced Wednesday that he was joining the field.
The second-year player joins the already announced Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees’ Ben Rice.
“I was approached a couple of days ago and asked to do the Home Run Derby and I think I’m gonna do it this year and have my dad throw to me,” the 24-year-old Tampa native said on MLB Network’s MLB Central.
Originally taken with the sixth overall pick of the 2024 MLB Amateur Draft out of Florida, Caglianone has 14 home runs in 299 at-bats this season. His homers have averaged a distance of 418 feet. In his first full season, Caglianone belted seven jacks in 210 ABs in 2025.
The 2026 Home Run Derby is set for Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh won the event in 2025.
