Veteran guard Klay Thompson is expected to sign a free agent deal with the Miami Heat after reaching a buyout agreement with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The 36-year-old spent two seasons with the Mavericks after being acquired from the Golden State Warriors in a sign-and-trade deal in July 2024.
Thompson had a season remaining on his three-year, $50 million contract.
“Klay is one of the great players and competitors of his generation, and we are grateful for everything he brought to the Mavericks organization,” said Mavericks President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri. “We have tremendous respect for Klay and all that he has accomplished throughout his career, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
Thompson averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists alongside a career-low 38.3 three-point percentage over 69 games in 2025-26.
The Los Angeles native won four NBA championships during his 11-year run with the Warriors.
Thompson is a five-time All-Star.
