Report: Bucks send Antetokounmpo to Heat in blockbuster deal

The Giannis Antetokounmpo era is over in Milwaukee.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Bucks have dealt the future Hall of Famer and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including No. 13 in 2026), one pick swap and one 2033 second-rounder.

The first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 will be unprotected.

The move ends months of speculation about Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee and concludes a 13-year tenure highlighted by an NBA title in 2021.

According to multiple reports, Antetokounmpo was nearly dealt at the February trade deadline and the Bucks had been listening to offers as far back as last off-season with teams such as the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors, among others, reported to have interest.

The Bucks have won just one playoff series since their NBA championship five years ago. They made the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2022 but were eliminated in the first round in three straight years from 2023 to 2025.

This past season, Milwaukee missed the playoffs altogether and finished under .500 (32-50) for the first time in nine seasons. Antetokounmpo has been consistently vocal about his desire to play for a winning team over the years.

The superstar forward dealt with calf and knee injuries that limited him to just 36 games in 2025-26. He was his usual productive self when on the court, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game while shooting a career-best .624 from the field.

Now 31, the Athens native is a two-time MVP award winner, an NBA Finals MVP, a 10-time All-Star and was a Defensive Player of the Year recipient in 2020. He’s averaged 24.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in 895 career NBA regular-season games.
