Texas Tech has added some depth to its quarterbacks room.
Former Boston College and Florida State pivot Tommy Castellanos has committed to the Red Raiders.
Castellanos, 23, was granted a fifth year of eligibility last week in a Kentucky state court. Undrafted last spring, he did not sign a professional contract and did not attend an NFL camp. As such, his NCAA eligibility remains intact.
A native of Miami, Castellanos spent 2025 with the Seminoles following two years with the Eagles and one at Central Florida. He’s appeared in a combined 38 games, throwing for 6,449 yards on 477-for-816 passing with 48 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. He’s rushed for another 1,984 yards on 459 carries and 24 TDs.
Castellanos is expected to back up redshirt sophomore Will Hammond. Lloyd Jones III and Kirk Francis are also on the roster.
The Red Raiders, the preseason No. 12 team in the country, open up their season on Sept. 5 against Abilene Christian. They first see Big 12 play on Sept. 18 with a visit from Houston.
