ESPN’s College GameDay is in Oxford this weekend ahead of the colossal showdown between the returning Lane Kiffin’s LSU and Ole Miss. The guest picker for the occasion will be Rebs superfan and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman.
Freeman, 89, was born in Memphis, but was raised in Mississippi and currently lives in Charleston, MS. He frequently attends Ole Miss sporting events. Freeman also made a donation of $1 million to the school in 2021.
A Best Supporting Actor Academy Award winner for 2004’s Million Dollar Baby, Freeman has been nominated for an Oscar on four other occasions. He is also an Emmy, Grammy and Tony nominee and claimed a Golden Globe in 1990 for Driving Miss Daisy. Freeman has appeared in three Best Picture-winning films (Driving Miss Daisy, Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby).
Saturday’s show marks the third visit to Oxford by the GameDay crew. In 2014, Katy Perry served as guest picker and memorably went 7-2. Then in 2021, Kiffin himself was the guest picker, becoming the first-ever guest picker to coach in a game on that same day. Kiffin’s Rebs would go on to defeat Texas A&M by a score of 29-19 later that night.
