Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris will not be rostered by LSU this season, its president confirmed in a letter to SEC president Greg Sankey on Wednesday.
Front Office Sports’ Amanda Christovich obtained a copy of the letter written by Wade Rousse.
The letter comes a day before the SEC is set to convene with the expulsion of LSU from the conference on the agenda. But the chances of the vote to boot the school actually happening are slim.
In the letter, Rousse argues that the dispute over Wright or Harris, a pair of former Ole Miss players who played under Lane Kiffin before signing deals with the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints, respectively, is now effectively mooted by the decision.
“On the afternoon of September 4, 2026, I called and provided you with advance notice that LSU would not place Dae’Quan Wright or Zxavian Harris on the football roster,” Rousse wrote. “This was confirmed when LSU submitted its roster later that evening. On September 8, 2026, LSU filled its two remaining roster spots with eligible student-athletes. The roster is now locked for the season. LSU complied with SEC rules. This issue is moot.”
Both Wright and Harris are members of the 2022 recruiting class. Prior to this past June, it was believed that their collegiate eligibility had been exhausted until the NCAA adopted a five-for-five eligibility model. That would have granted them an additional year of eligibility. A number of members of that class went to court to fight for that extra year. Last week, a judge in Louisiana granted an injunction that would prevent the SEC or the NCAA from punishing any team that fielded a professional player after the conference had moved to ban them. Multiple court cases remain active.
The No. 8 Tigers opened up Kiffin’s first season with a blowout win over Clemson on Saturday in Death Valley by a score of 51-10. The team hosts Louisiana Tech on Saturday before the much anticipated trip to Oxford where Kiffin will reunite with the No. 7 Rebs on Sept. 19/
