Bill Belichick has a new offensive coordinator.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel confirms that Bobby Petrino is set to join the staff at North Carolina.

Petrino, 64, served as interim head coach of Arkansas this past season upon the firing of Sam Pittman in October. The Razorbacks went 0-7 under the Lewistown, MT native, who previously coached the Hogs from 2008 to 2011.

In his fifth decade in coaching, Petrino also had head coaching stints at Louisville, Western Kentucky and Missouri State. He served as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 after previously spending time as the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach and OC from 1999 to 2001. In his lone NFL season, Petrino had a record of 3-10 in December when he abruptly resigned to take the Arkansas job.

Petrino’s stint at Hogs coach came to an infamous end in April of 2012 when he got into a motorcyle accident while riding with a subordinate with whom he was having an extramarital affair. Petrino was fired by the school days later.

In 18 seasons as a head coach, Petrino has a record of 137-78.

The Tar Heels finished their first season under Belichick at 4-8, ranked 119th in FBS scoring. Former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens was fired as offensive coordinator last week.
