GREEN BAY, Wis. -- On Monday, Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said the best way to settle any fights at a joint practice between his team and his brother Mike’s Arizona Cardinals would be for the two of them to throw down at midfield.
Though there were a few scuffles during Wednesday’s two-plus-hour practice, that wasn’t necessary.
However, their father, Denny, remembered what happened one time when the brothers LaFleur went at it as kids.
“This guy, me, came out on top,” Denny said before practice. “It’s not going to happen, but if they did, I still might come out on top. It’s a long story, but I will tell you this: We were in close quarters and I had to take care of them.”
Denny wore a combination of Packers and Cardinals colors. He had on a red shirt to represent the Cardinals, and he wore a Packers visor.
There was a little trash-talking, especially from Matt.
“He was more of a pest,” Matt said when asked if he and Mike fought as kids. “There’s a 7½-year age difference, so picture me at 18: He’s 10½, 11, so there was not a lot of fighting going on.”
Matt’s wife, Bre, and their two sons were at practice. Mike’s wife, Lauren, and their daughter and son were on their way to Green Bay, and they planned to stay at Matt’s house.
And the LaFleur brothers’ parents, Denny and Kristi, also were on hand. They live in Green Bay.
