HENDERSON, Nev. -- Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said Monday that star tight end Brock Bowers is day-to-day after missing the team's Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins because of a meniscus trim procedure he had last week.
"[Bowers is] working his tail off to get back out on the field," Kubiak said ahead of the team's Week 2 matchup against the Chargers in Los Angeles on Sunday. "It's really important to him to play as soon as possible, and that doesn't surprise me about Brock."
Kubiak said the team will be smart with Bowers and listen to the athletic trainers, including wellness coordinator Alex Guerrero.
"If he's ready to play, he's going to play," Kubiak added.
Bowers got banged up during training camp, but the injury was diagnosed last week, prompting him to have surgery Dr. Daniel Cooper. Kubiak said he doesn't recall the exact day the injury occurred.
Bowers has been dealing with knee issues since last season. He played three games while dealing with a posterior cruciate ligament injury and a bone bruise in his left knee that he suffered in the Raiders' season-opening win over the New England Patriots. He then was sidelined for three games to recover.
With Bowers missing from the Raiders' 27-13 win over Miami, Michael Mayer filled the role of TE1 and caught six passes for 32 yards on seven targets.
