Joe Mixon’s season is over before it even began.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Houston Texans running back will not play this season as he continues to deal with a foot injury incurred during the offseason.

Rapoport notes that Mixon is expected to remain on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list for the remainder of the campaign.

Mixon, 29, spent last season with the Texans after being acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals, with whom he spent the first seven seasons of his career. He immediately signed a three-year, $25.5 million extension with the team.

In 14 games in 2024, Mixon rushed for 1,016 yards on 245 carries and 11 touchdowns. It was his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season and fifth of his career. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time for his efforts.

With Mixon out, the Texans have rolled with veteran Nick Chubb and fourth-round pick Woody Marks in the backfield. The Texans have rushed for a combined 1,076 yards as a team this season, putting them 23rd in the NFL.

The Texans (5-5) sit third in the AFC South this season. They host the Buffalo Bills (7-3) on Thursday Night Football.
