GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Attorneys representing the former girlfriend of Josh Jacobs have filed a motion to permanently seal evidence and discovery materials in the criminal case involving the Green Bay Packers running back.
Attorneys Rames Jalalpour and Amir Tahmassebi said in a statement that the motion, filed Tuesday, "is consistent with our client's desire to protect her privacy."
The statement, obtained by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, identifies the woman as "ANM," as was the case in the criminal complaint.
Brown County Circuit Judge Marc A. Hammer temporarily sealed the evidence in the case last Thursday after Jacobs pleaded no contest to battery and criminal damage to property, both misdemeanors.
A permanent sealing of evidence could prevent the NFL from reviewing the video from the May 23 incident at Jacobs' home that is described in the criminal complaint. According to the complaint, Jacobs threw the woman to the ground and damaged her phone, and there is surveillance video of the portion of the incident that took place in Jacobs' garage.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the league is trying to obtain the video as part of its investigation. Jacobs was placed on the commissioner exempt list on Aug. 30 and cannot play or practice. He could be subject to a suspension once the NFL concludes its investigation. Time spent on the commissioner exempt list would count toward a suspension.
Jacobs was convicted of the battery charge and fined $1,000 and agreed to a deferred judgement agreement on the charge of damage to property. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, pay restitution, attend counseling and be under supervision for one year.
"The motion is consistent with our client's desire to protect her privacy, particularly in light of Mr. Jacobs taking responsibility for his actions in the criminal proceeding," Jalalpour and Tahmassebi said. "We have no further comment at this time."
