The Colorado Avalanche announced that defenceman Cale Makar will miss Game 2 tonight of the Western Conference Final against the Vegas Golden Knights as he continues to be sidelined by an upper-body injury.
The star defenceman also missed Game 1 with the injury as Colorado dropped the opening game of the series 4-2 to Vegas.
Makar took part in the Avs’ optional skate on Thursday and skated Friday morning before he was ruled out.
He was injured in Game 5 of the second round against the Minnesota Wild. Makar left the contest holding his right arm after a collision late in the game but returned as the Avs won the series in overtime.
Makar has four goals and one assist in nine playoff games this season while averaging 24:59 of ice time.
The 27-year-old scored 20 goals with 79 points in 75 regular-season games and is one of the three finalists for the Norris Trophy alongside Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin. Makar won the Norris Trophy in 2022 and 2025.
He also helped Canada earn Olympic silver at Milano Cortina 2026.
Makar was a key cog in the Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup in 2022 as he took home the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
