The Chicago Blackhawks signed restricted free agent defenceman Ethan Del Mastro to a two-year, $1.9 million contract on Wednesday.
The deal, which carries a $950,000 cap hit, comes just as training camp arrives and leaves just five RFAs unsigned around the league. Adam Fantilli of the Columbus Blue Jackets headlines the list along with blueliners Alexander Nikishin of the Carolina Hurricanes and Simon Edvinsson of the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins centre Matthew Poitras and Calgary Flames forward Brennan Othmann.
The 23-year-old Del Mastro posted one assist in 19 games with the Blackhawks last season. He added two goals and 18 points in 45 AHL games with the Rockford IceHogs.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, Del Mastro has two goals and seven points in 45 career games with the Blackhawks.
