It’s an upper-body injury. This is “what was expected.”
The injury occurred with just 0.8 seconds remaining in the third period on Friday when Bedard got tangled up with Blues captain Brayden Schenn during a faceoff.
Bedard went down in pain and went to his team’s dressing room clutching his shoulder as the game ended.
Head coach Blashill told reporters after the game that the play was a “freak accident” and that Bedard wasn’t available for Saturday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
The third-year centre is on pace for a career season, recording 19 goals and 25 assists over 31 games so far in 2025-26.
Bedard won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2023-24 after tallying 61 points in 68 games before accumulating 23 goals and 44 assists over 82 games last year.
The North Vancouver native is in contention to represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympic in Italy.
Defenceman Ethan Del Mastro and goaltender Laurent Brossoit have been recalled from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League in corresponding moves.
