The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed unrestricted free agent defenceman Carson Soucy to a professional tryout contract on Sunday.
Soucy, 32, finished last season with the New York Islanders after he was dealt by the New York Rangers for a draft pick on Jan. 26.
He registered five goals and 12 points in 76 games while averaging 15:27 of ice time.
“Carson Soucy is a big, physical stay-at-home defenseman who blocks shots, clears the net and plays an overall solid defensive game,” said Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell. “He is a competitive, experienced player and we look forward to having him in camp.”
The 6-foot-4, left-shot defenceman is coming off a three-year, $9.75 million contract that carried a cap hit of $3.25 million.
Drafted 137th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2013, Soucy has 32 goals and 99 points in 441 career games split between the Wild, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, Rangers, and Islanders.
