The Montreal Canadiens have acquired forward Brett Berard from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Wiliam Trudeau.
Both players are restricted free agents, marking the second straight day the Canadiens have made an RFA swap, having sent forward Luke Tuch to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday in exchange for centre Hunter McKown.
Berard appeared in 13 games with the Rangers this past season, failing to post a point. He had six goals and 22 points in 41 AHL games with the Hartford Wolfpack.
The 23-year-old winger posted six goals and 10 points in 35 games with the Rangers after making his NHL debut during the 2024-25 season.
Berard was selected by the Rangers in the fifth round of the 2023 draft.
Trudeau, a fourth-round pick in 2021, has yet to make his NHL debut. He had eight goals and 20 points in 62 games with the Laval Rocket this season.
