The Montreal Canadiens clinched a playoff berth on Sunday afternoon after the Detroit Red Wings’ 5-4 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

The Canadiens (45-21-10, 100 points) sit second in the Atlantic Division and have won eight games in a row. They play the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The Canadiens sit two points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for first in the division. The two will face off in their final regular-season meeting on Thursday.

Last season, the Habs reached the playoffs as the second wild-card team and were eliminated in five games by the Washington Capitals.

The Red Wings (40-29-8) sit at 88 points with five games remaining on their schedule. The Boston Bruins (43-26-8, 94 points) and Ottawa Senators (39-27-10, 88 points) currently hold the two Eastern Conference wild-card spots.
