The Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Jake Evans will not return to Thursday’s game against the Washington Capitals.

With just under six minutes remaining the second period, Capitals forward Tom Wilson hit Evans up high, knocking him to the ice. Evans went back to the bench and played another shift before departing for the dressing room. He returned to the bench late in the second period but did not come out for the third before being ruled out.

Washington defenceman Jakob Chychrun scored on the same shift, beating Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes to make it a 4-2 game.

Evans had zero points and was minus-1 in 12:19 of ice time before leaving the game.

The 29-year-old has three goals and six points in 20 games this season.
