The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning are scoreless after a high-paced first period in Game 6 of their first-round series.
The Canadiens lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can advance to the second round with a victory.
The teams came out of the gate trading chances with Canadiens forward Cole Caufield firing a puck off the post in the early stages of the period.
Josh Anderson brought the physical play for Montreal, delivering a few big hits that got the crowd into the game.
Ivan Demidov had a great chance on a 2-on-1 late in the frame, but was not able to finish and open the scoring.
Lightning forward Jake Guentzel took the only penalty of the opening frame, going to the box for high sticking with 10 seconds left on the clock.
The man advantage will carry over to the second period.
Jakub Dobes turned away all nine shots he faced in goal for the Canadiens.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made seven saves for the Lightning.
The series continues to be tightly contested as all five games so far have been decided by one goal, including the first three in overtime.
If the Canadiens are victorious in Game 6, they will advance to face the winner of the series between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins.
If the Lightning are able to force the series the distance, Game 7 will take place on Sunday at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
