Darren Raddysh and Brandon Hagel scored 29 seconds apart and Juraj Slafkovsky responded on the power play as the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning will go to the third period of Game 1 tied 2-2.
The Canadiens started the period shorthanded while defencman Kaiden Guhle served the remainder of his double-minor for high-sticking that occurred with 12 seconds remaining in the first period.
Montreal successfully killed the penalty and would go on its own abbreviated power play after Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov was also sent to the penalty box for high-sticking.
Josh Anderson appeared to score his second goal of the game midway through the period, but it was called back after review due to a high stick, keeping the game at 1-0.
Minutes after the goal was called back, Anderson was sent to the box for charging after a high-speed hit on Charle-Edouard D’Astous. Tampa Bay would score on the ensuing power play, when defenceman Darren Raddysh blasted a one-timer past Jakub Dobes for the equalizer.
Brandon Hagel would give the Lightning the lead 29 seconds later, after Lane Hutson gave the puck away behind the net, giving Hagel an open shot on Dobes for his first of the postseason.
Slafkovsky tied the game with less than 30 second remaining in the frame and he blasted a one-timer past Vasilevskiy on the power play.
The Lightning hold a 16-5 advantage in shots on net through 40 minutes.
Anderson opened the scoring in the first period with a shot from the slot that sailed over Vasilevskiy’s shoulder.
