The Calgary Flames have signed head coach Ryan Huska to a two-year contract extension.

The 50-year-old Huska is entering his third season with the Flames and was in the last year of his current contract.

The Flames finished last in the Pacific Division with a a 38-39-5 record during Huska’s first season in Calgary in 2023-24.

Last season, the Flames were vastly improved under Huska as they finished with a 41-27-24 record, barely missing the playoffs after losing a tiebreaker with the St. Louis Blues.

“We’re thrilled to extend Ryan for two more years,” Flames general manager Craig Conroy said in a statement. “He’s done an excellent job creating a strong culture in our room and helping our team take steps in the right direction. His communication, work ethic, and commitment to developing our players have been outstanding.

“We believe in his vision and are confident he’s the right coach to lead us forward.”

Huska has coached within the Flames organization since 2014-15, serving as head coach in the AHL for four years before spending five seasons as an assistant coach with the NHL club.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this team and to build on the foundation we’ve started,” Huska said Thursday. “I believe in this group, in their character, talent, and potential. I’m excited about the direction we are heading. I want to thank Craig, the ownership, and the entire organization for their trust and support. We are committed to pushing forward and bringing success back to Calgary.”
