Veteran NHL defenceman John Klingberg announced his retirement on Friday after 12-season career.
Klingberg, 34, had 10 goals and 27 points in 56 games with the San Jose Sharks last season while averaging 20:28 of ice time.
The 6-foot-2, right-shot defenceman is coming off a one-year, $4 million contract.
Drafted 131st overall by the Dallas Stars in 2010, Klingberg has 92 goals and 443 points in 700 career games split between the Stars, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Sharks.
His best offensive season came during the 2017-18 campaign where he registered eight goals and 67 points in 82 games as a member of the Stars while averaging 24:04 of ice time.
Klingberg also helped the Stars to a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2020, recording four goals and 21 points in 26 games before his team fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Gothenburg, Sweden native has represented his country four times at the World Hockey Championship, taking home gold medals in 2017 and 2018.
