The Vegas Golden Knights lost a defenceman early in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final when Brayden McNabb was struck in the face by a puck and was subsequently taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Midway through the first period, Carolina Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers let loose a slap shot from close to the blue line that caught McNabb squarely on the jaw in front of the Golden Knights’ net.

McNabb went straight to the ice and was promptly helped off the Vegas training staff.

It was announced in the second period that McNabb was taken out of the arena and to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The 35-year-old McNabb finished Game 2 having skated seven shifts with 5:39 of ice time. The veteran of 14 NHL seasons has one goal and seven points in 17 games this postseason.

An original member of the Golden Knights, McNabb has spent the past nine years in Vegas and helped the team to the 2023 Stanley Cup title. He has 38 goals and 191 points in 885 career NHL games with the Golden Knights, Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings.
