Cole Caufield stayed red hot in the Montreal Canadiens’ 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers Thursday night.

The 25 year old scored twice in the Habs’ win to give him 49 goals on the season, putting him only one goal behind Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon for the league lead.

Caufield got his first of the night when let loose a one-timer from the circle that beat Igor Shesterkin over his right shoulder mid way through the second period.

He then scored the winner with approximately five minutes to go when he cut in from the left wing and found enough space in the slot to get a shot off, finding the back of the net for a second time.

The Stevens Point, Wis. native now has goals in four straight games and has three straight two-point outings. He now has 49 goals and 34 assists for 83 points in 74 games on the season.

MacKinnon scored his 50th of the season Wednesday night against the Vancouver Canucks. He has 71 assists and 121 points in 73 games in 2025-26.

The Habs’ win Thursday night was their seventh in a row as they push for one of the top three spots in the Atlantic Division.
