Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov will have surgery to address a lower-body injury he has been managing and will likely be out for the season.
Head coach Rod Brind’Amour made the announcement Monday evening before Carolina’s game against the New York Rangers.

“He didn’t feel right all year. He’s been playing great; that’s the hard part. He was kind of fighting through it, but doesn’t want to continue that way, so we’ll get it fixed and go from there‚" Brind’Amour said via team reporter Walt Ruff.
The 26-year-old netminder has played nine games so far this season, recording an .899 save percentage and 2.33 goals-against average.
He last played on Dec. 20 against the Tampa Bay Lightning when he allowed five goals on 28 shots in a 6-4 defeat.
Kochetkov has spent his entire five-year NHL career with the Hurricanes since being selected in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
