Ice Chips: Maccelli returns to Leafs lineup to face former team

Toronto Maple Leafs

Forward Matias Maccelli is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday when the Maple Leafs take on his former team in the Utah Mammoth.

Maccelli was a healthy scratch during the team’s 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday and skated on the third line on Wednesday with Dakota Joshua and Nicolas Roy.

The 5-foot-11 winger was acquired by the Maple Leafs in the off-season from Utah in exchange for a draft pick.

Maccelli has two goals and five points in 12 games this season.

Additionally, Scott Laughton is expected to make his season debut on Wednesday.

Laughton, 31, hasn’t played this season while dealing with a lower-body injury sustained in training camp.

The 6-foot-1 centre skated on the team’s fourth line during the morning skate between Max Domi and Steven Lorentz.

Laughton had 13 goals and 31 points in 80 games last season split between the Philadelphia Flyers and Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs used these lines during Wednesday’s morning skate:

Anthony Stolarz is expected to get the start in net on Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s practice for maintenance.

Stolarz, 31, has a 5-4-1 record with a 3.12 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage this season.

Calgary Flames

Defenceman Zayne Parekh is expected to be a healthy scratch when the Flames take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday, according to TSN’s Salim Valji.

Parekh, 19, is in the midst of his rookie season and has an assist in 10 games with the Flames while averaging 15:36 of ice time.

Yan Kuznetsov will take Parekh’s place in the lineup, who will be playing his second career NHL game.

Kuznetsov was recalled from the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers on Tuesday and has two goals in 10 games in the AHL this season.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens recalled defenceman Marc Del Gaizo from the AHL’s Laval Rocket on Wednesday.

Del Gaizo, 26, joined the Canadiens organization in the off-season on a one-year deal.

The 5-foot-11 left-shot defenceman appeared in 46 games for the Nashville Predators last season, recording two goals and nine points while averaging 16:45 of ice time.

He has an assist in six games in the AHL this season.

Jakub Dobes will be in the net on Thursday when the Canadiens take on the New Jersey Devils.

Dobes, 24, has yet to lose this season going 6-0-0 with a 1.97 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.

Additionally, the club announced that captain Nick Suzuki isn’t participating in practice on Wednesday due to a therapy day.

The 5-foot-11 centre skated 21:27 and recorded a goal during the team’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

Suzuki has three goals and 19 points in 13 games this season.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators used these lines during Wednesday’s practice as they get set to take on the Boston Bruins on Thursday, according to Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch:

Vancouver Canucks

Forwards Conor Garland and Teddy Blueger participated in the team’s morning skate prior to their game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.

Garland, 29, missed the team’s last three games while dealing with an undisclosed injury.

The 5-foot-10 winger has three goals and 11 points in 11 games this season.

Blueger, 31, has been out the last eight games while dealing with an undisclosed injury and has only appeared in two games this season.

Assistant coach Brett Maclean told TSN’s Farhan Lalji that the team is hoping Blueger can get into a practice later this week in a non-contact sweater.

The team is also expecting forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki to return to practice in a non-contact jersey this week.

Lekkerimaki, 21, hasn’t played since Oct. 19 while dealing with an undisclosed injury and has a goal in four games this season.

The Canucks assigned defenceman Kirill Kudryavtsev to the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks on Wednesday.

Kudryavtsev, 21, didn’t appear in a game in Vancouver this season and has five assists in five games in the AHL.

Buffalo Sabres

Forward Josh Norris has resumed skated while he continues to deal with a an upper-body injury, according to head coach Lindy Ruff.

Norris, 26, was injured during the team’s season opener on Oct. 9 and was expected to miss “a significant amount of time” with the injury.

The 6-foot-2 centre was acquired by the Sabres, along with defenceman Jacob Bernard Docker from the Ottawa Senators before last season’s trade deadline in exchange for forward Dylan Cozens, defenceman Dennis Gilbert, and a draft pick.

Norris has only appeared in four games with the Sabres due to injuries.

The Oxford, Mich., native registered 21 goals and 35 points in 56 games last season split between the Senators and Sabres.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are hopeful defenceman K’Andre Miller will return to the lineup on Thursday when they take on the Minnesota Wild.

Miller, 25, has been out since Oct. 20 with a lower-body injury but the team won’t be able to say definitively if he’s ready until tomorrow skate.

The 6-foot-5 left-shot defenceman was acquired from the New York Rangers in July in exchange for defenceman Scott Morrow and two draft picks.

He has two goals and four points in six games this season while averaging 23:32 of ice time.

Chicago Blackhawks

Spencer Knight was in the starter’s crease during the team’s morning skate and is expected to be in net against the Vancouver Canucks, according to Ben Pop of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Knight, 24, has three wins in his last five starts and has a 4-3-2 record this season with a 2.62 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets are projected to use these lines as they take on the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night:

New Jersey Devils

Forwards Cody Glass and Zack MacEwen both participated in Wednesday’s practice in non-contact jerseys, according to team reporter Amanda Stein.

Glass, 26, has missed the team’s last seven games while dealing with an upper-body injury.

The 6-foot-3 centre has two goals in six games this season.

MacEwen was acquired by the Devils on Oct. 3 from the Ottawa Senators for forward Kurtis MacDermid and has been out with an undisclosed injury.

The 6-foot-4 winger only appeared in one game this season and recorded two goals and three points in 21 games with the Senators last season.

San Jose Sharks

Forward Ty Dellandrea participated in the Sharks’ morning skate and is questionable to play against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, according to Sheng Peng of NBC Sports Sharks.

Dellandrea, 25, has been dealing with an undisclosed injury and has five assists in 13 games this season.
