Ice Chips: Habs’ Texier, Xhekaj healthy scratches vs. Capitals

Montreal Canadiens

The Habs announced winger Alexandre Texier and defenceman Arber Xhekaj will be healthy scratches for Saturday’s game against the visiting Washington Capitals.

Forward Zachary Bolduc and defenceman Jayden Struble will be in the lineup while goalie Jakub Dobes will get the start in net.

Texier, 26, has seven goals and 11 assists over 31 games with the Habs this season since being acquired off waivers from the St. Louis Blues in November.

The 25-year-old Xhekaj has two points in 51 games in 2025-26.

Montreal is holding down the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with 73 points through 58 games.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Rookie forward Easton Cowan is set to return to the lineup against the Ottawa Senators, his first game since the NHL resumed followed the Olympic break.

The 20-year-old has seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points while averaging 13:31 of ice time per game in 43 outings this season as a rookie.

He was selected No. 28 overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Joseph Woll will get the start in net.

Ottawa Senators

Veteran goalie Linus Ullmark gets the start in Toronto against the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old Swede is 16-8-6 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage with one shutout.

New Jersey Devils

Defenceman Luke Hughes has been activated off the long-term injured reserve after missing 10 games with a shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old American has five goals and 21 assists over 49 games with the Devils this season, his fourth in New Jersey.

Colton White has been reassigned to the AHL in a corresponding move.

Los Angeles Kings

Los Angeles Kings forward Andrei Kuzmenko is listed as week-to-week after undergoing successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

The 30-year-old Russian didn’t play Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers after picking up two assists against the Vegas Golden Knights in the team’s first game back following the Olympic break.

Kuzmenko has tallied 13 goals and 12 assists over 52 games with the Kings in 2025-26, his first full season with the franchise.

Kuzmenko is making $4.3 million this season and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

In a corresponding move, defenceman Angus Booth has been recalled from the American Hockey League.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Injured forward Anthony Cirelli took part in an optional skate on Saturday, but his status for Tampa’s game against the visiting Buffalo Sabres is up in the air.

The 28-year-old centre hasn’t played since Feb. 1 with an undisclosed injury, missing the Olympics in the process.

Cirelli has 15 goals and 20 assists over 49 games this season.

Minnesota Wild

Forward Joel Eriksson Ek isn’t expected to play Sunday against the St. Louis Blues after taking a high stick near the eye during Friday’s loss to the Utah Mammoth.

Eriksson Ek is not expected to miss significant time.

The 29-year-old Swede has 17 goals and 25 assists over 54 games with the Wild this season.

Forward Tyler Pitlick has been recalled from the American Hockey League.

The 34-year-old has two goals over 31 games in the NHL this season and eight goals with three assists over 12 games in the AHL.
