Ice Chips: Stars’ Benn to make season debut vs. Islanders

Dallas Stars

Head coach Glen Gulutzan says Jamie Benn will be activited from LTIR Tuesday and will make his season debut tonight againsty the New York Islanders.

He has not played this season due to a punctured lung.

The 36-year-old had 16 goals and 49 points in 80 games last season.

The Stars have recalled defenceman Vladislav Kolyachonok from the AHL’s Texas Stars.

The 24-year-old has four goals and 14 points in 74 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Arizona/Utah franchise.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews and defenceman Chris Tanev were on the ice prior to the team’s morning skate, reports TSN’s Mark Masters.

General manager Brad Treliving said Matthews is “coming along” and is day-to-day.

“I would suspect Thursday’s probably not a possibility. I don’t anticipate too, too long,” Treliving said.

This is the first time Matthews has skated since sustaining a lower-body injury on Nov. 11 against the Boston Bruins. Head coach Craig Berube previously said Matthews was expected to miss about a week.

The 28-year-old Matthews has tallied nine goals and five assists over 17 games, his 10th year in the NHL after the Leafs selected him first overall in 2016.

Tanev was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 2 after suffering an upper-body injury against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Treliving added there is no timeline for Tanev and that the team should find out more over the next week.

The 35-year-old has two assists in eight games this season. Before departing on Saturday, he had one assist in 14:50 minutes of ice time.

Head coach Berube said that forward Nicolas Roy will miss the next couple of games due to an upper-body injury.

Joseph Woll was the firs goaltender off the ice at Tuesday’s skate and is in line to start tonight’s game agaisnt his hometown St. Louis Blues.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators have recalled Stephen Halliday and defenceman Lassi Thomson from Belleville of the AHL.

Halliday was selected 104th overall by the Sens in the 2022 NHL Draft and had one goal and 16 points in 15 games in Belleville this season.

Thomson, the former 19th overall pick in 2019, has three goals and four points in 15 AHL games this season.

The Snes also assigned defenceman Dennis Gilbert to Belleville following yesterday’s trade. Post Media’s Bruce Garrioch says he will be available this weekend as he recovers from a back injury.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens have loaned defenceman Marcf Del Gaizo back to the AHL’s Laval Rocket after recalling him on Monday.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Lightning forward Anthony Cirelli will likely return tonight against the New Jersey Devils, according to Lightning beat reporter Benjamin Pierce.

Dominic James is also likely to return to the lineup, while Max Crozier will not play due to a new lower-body injury.

The Lightning have recalled defenceman Declan Carlile and Steven Santini from the Syracuse Crunch.

Carlile, 25, has two goals and 10 points in 15 AHL games this season.

Santini, 30, has four assists in 13 games with the Crunch. He was opriginally drafted 42nd overall by the team in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins recalled forward Sam Poulin from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and placed Ville Koivunen on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury.

New Jersey Devils

Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe says defencmen Dougie Hamilton and Brenden Dillon as well as forwards Connor Brown and Evegnii Dadonov, will be game-time decisions after warmups tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Boston Bruins

Head coach Marco Sturm said forward Elias Lindholm will travel with the team as it embarks on a Western road trip, reports Conor Ryan of the Boston Globe

Lindholm was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury on Oct. 30. The 30-year-old has four goals and nine points in 13 games this season.

Sturm also said defenceman Charlie McAvoy will not trael on the four-game trip after taking a puck to the face in Saturday’s win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Seattle Kraken

The Kraken announced that goaltender Joey Daccord has been activated from injured reserve.

The 29-year-old has played 11 games this sseason, posting a 2.83 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.
