Ice Chips: Maple Leafs recall F Pezzetta from AHL Marlies

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs recalled forward Michael Pezzetta from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on Thursday.

Pezzetta, 27, joined the Maple Leafs organization on a two-year, $1.625 million contract in the off-season.

The 6-foot-1 winger has four goals an 10 points in 37 games in the AHL this season.

He is expected to make his Maple Leafs debut on Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks after he skated on the fourth line with Jacob Quillan and Calle Jarnkrok during the team’s morning skate.

Pezzetta last appeared in the NHL during the 2024-25 campaign, appearing in 25 games for the Montreal Canadiens.

Drafted 160th overall in 2016, Pezzetta has 15 goals and 38 points in 200 career games, all with the Canadiens.

The Maple Leafs sit last in the Atlantic Division with a 27-27-11 record this season.

Joseph Woll is expected to get the start against the Ducks on Thursday.

The 6-foot-3 netminder is looking to snap a four game skid with him in net.

Woll has a 13-11-4 record this season with a .905 save percentage and 3.09 goals-against average.

Carolina Hurricanes

Brandon Bussi is expected to start on Thursday when the Hurricanes take on the St. Louis Blues.

Bussi, 27, has taken over the starting goalie role with the Hurricanes in his first NHL season going 25-4-1 with an .899 save percentage and 2.38 goals-against average.

The 6-foot-4 netminder had a nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 5-4 loss to the Calgary Flames.

Colorado Avalanche

Scott Wedgewood is expected to start in net when the Avalanche takes on the Seattle Kraken on Thursday, according to Corey Masisak of the Denver Post.

Wedgewood, 33, has won his last four games and has a 24-4-5 record with a .916 save percentage and 2.19 goals-against average.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings recalled forward Austin Watson from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions on Thursday.

Watson, 34, has yet to appear for the Red Wings this season and had three goals in 13 games in 2024-25.

The 6-foot-4 winger has 11 goals and 20 points and 48 AHL games this season.

Vancouver Canucks

Nikita Tolopilo will be in net when the Canucks take on the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

Tolopilo, 25, has appeared in 13 games with the Canucks this season, going 4-6-2 wit an .898 save percentage and 3.13 goals-against average.

The 6-foot-6 netminder also has an 8-8-3 record with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks with an .897 save percentage and 3.07 GAA.

Additionally, forward Evander Kane will return to the lineup after missing Monday’s 2-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators with an illness.

The 6-foot-2 winger has 11 goals and 27 points in 61 games this season.

Forward Nils Hoglander is expected to come out of the lineup to make room for Kane.

Florida Panthers

The Panthers recalled defenceman Mike Benning from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers on Thursday.

Benning, 24, has eight goals and 31 points in 56 games in the AHL this season.

The 5-foot-9, right-shot blueliner was drafted 95th overall by the Panthers in 2020 and is expected to make his NHL debut on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Sergei Bobrovsky will be in net when his Panthers battle the Blue Jackets on Thursday.

Bobrovsky, 37, has a 23-19-1 record this season with an.876 save percentage and 3.08 goals-against average.

Additionally, forwards Anton Lundell and Carter Verhaeghe will miss Thursday’s game while forwards Sam Reinhart and Cole Reinhardt return to the lineup.

New Jersey Devils

Jacob Markstrom will be in net when the Devils take on his former team in the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Markstrom, 36, has won four of his last five games and has a 19-15-1 record and an .888 save percentage and a 3.05 goals-against average this season.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Defenceman Sam Girard will not be available to his team for their game against the Vegas Golden Knights with an upper-body injury.

He is considered day-to-day with the injury.

Girard, 27, was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche on Feb. 24, along with a draft pick, in exchange for blueliner Brett Kulak.

The 5-foot-10, left-shot defenceman has three goals and 12 points in 47 games split between the Avalanche and Penguins.

The Penguins recalled defenceman Alexander Alexeyev from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and assigned dfenceman Ryan Graves to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning stint.

Graves, 30, hasn’t played since Jan. 21 while dealing with a lower-body injury.

The 6-foot-5, left-shot blueliner has a goal in 19 games this season while averaging 15:29 of ice time.

Alexeyev, 26, joined the Penguins on a one-year deal in the off-season and has three goals and seven points in 29 AHL games this season.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks recalled forward Igor Chernsyhov from the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda on Tuesday.

Chernyshov, 20, was drafted 33rd overall in 2024 and has three goals and 11 points in 15 NHL games this season.

The 6-foot-2 winger also has 13 goals and 33 points in 41 AHL gams this season.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues have signed defenceman Calle Rosen to a two-year, two-way contract on Thursday.

The deal will see Rosen get paid $850,000 during the 2026-27 campaign and then $900,000 in 2027-28.

Rosen, 32, is in his second stint with the Blues after he was acquired form the Washington Capitals in November.

The 6-foot-1, left-shot blueliner has eight goals and 33 points in 56 AHL games this season, split between Hershey Bears and Springfield Thunderbirds.

Rosen last appeared in the NHL during the 2022-23 campaign with the Blues, recording an assist in six games.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017, Rosen has 11 goals and 31 points in 93 career games split between the Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, and Blues.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Forward Nick Paul and defenceman Erik Cernak will remain out of the lineup on Thursday when the Lightning take on the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, but are considered game-time decisions for up coming games.

Cernak, 28, missed Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets with an upper-body injury.

He left Sunday’s 8-7 loss to the Buffalo Sabres shortly after getting into a fight with Sabres blueline Michael Kesselring.

The 6-foot-4, right-shot defenceman has a goal and seven points in 43 games this season while averaging 17:57 of ice time.

Paul, 30, hasn’t played since Feb. 1 while dealing with a lower-body injury that has a week-to-week timeframe for his return.

The 6-foot-4 winger has six goals and 12 points in 34 games this season.

Utah Mammoth

Defenceman Mikhail Sergachev participated in the team’s morning skate on Thursday ahead of their game against the Chicago Blackhawks, according to Cole Bagley of KSL Sports.

Sergachev, 27 missed the team’s last four games while dealing with a lower-body injury and is considered to be day-to-day.

The 6-foot-3, left-shot defenceman has 10 goals and 42 points in 61 games this season.

Vegas Golden Knights

Captain Mark Stone participated in the Golden Knights’ morning skate in a non-contact jersey prior to their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and is considered to be a game-time decision, according to head coach Bruce Cassidy.

Stone, 33, missed the team’s last five games while dealing with an upper-body injury and is considered to be day-to-day.

The 6-foot-3 winger has 21 goals and 60 points in 43 games this season.

Adin Hill is expected to start against the Penguins, according to Danny Webster of the Vegas Review Journal.

Hill, 29, has a 6-6-3 record this season with an .859 save percentage and 3.32 goals-against average.
