Jets’ Scheifele to play for Canada at upcoming Worlds

Published:

Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele said on Friday during the team’s locker room cleanout that he’s going to play for Canada at the upcoming IIHF men’s world championships.

Per TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Scheifele is one of several key names that have already committed to playing for Canada, alongside fellow forwards John Tavares, Robert Thomas and Ryan O’Reilly.

Scheifele had a career-high 103 points in 82 games this season for the Jets, who missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2021-22 season. Winnipeg finished eight points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Scheifele, who did not make the Canadian roster for Milano Cortina 2026, has represented Canada at the Worlds three times in his career, winning gold in 2016 and silver in 2017.

The 33-year-old has skated in 961 career NHL games for the Jets since being selected with the franchise’s first-ever draft pick (seventh overall) in 2011, scoring 372 goals with 907 points.
