Colorado Avalanche veteran centre Nazem Kadri will not be in the lineup for Thursday’s home game against his former team in the Calgary Flames after sustaining a finger injury against the St. Louis Blues.

Avs head coach Jared Bednar added Kadri “will miss some games” with the injury, but plan on getting him in at least one game before the Stanley Cup Playoffs get underway.

The 35-year-old Kadri, who hasn’t recorded a point in four games, has tallied four goals and five assists over 16 games with the Avalanche since being acquired from the Flames ahead of the trade deadline in March.

Kadri tallied 12 goals and 29 assists over 61 games with the Flames this season.

A native of London, Ont., Kadri previously spent three seasons with the Avalanche from 2019 to 2022, helping them win the Stanley Cup in 2022.

Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Flames the following summer and has three more seasons - with a $7 million average annual value - remaining on the deal following 2025-26.

Kadri scored twice in a 9-2 rout of the Flames on March 30 in Colorado, the first game against his former team. Colorado is set to take on the Flames in Calgary on April 14.

With five games remaining in the regular season, the 51-16-10 Avalanche rank first in the NHL with 112 points. Colorado, who can only be caught by the Carolina Hurricanes, will secure the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time since 2021 with a win over the Flames, or a point against Calgary and a Chicago Blackhawks win in any fashion over Carolina, or if the Blackhawks defeat the Hurricanes in regulation.
