The Los Angeles Kings have signed 23-year-old defenceman Brandt Clarke to a five-year contract extension worth $37 million, the team announced on Friday.
The deal carries an average annual value of $7.4 million. Clarke was set to become a restricted free agent this off-season.
Clarke set career highs in goals (8), assists (32) and points (40) last season with the Kings after skating in all 82 games.
Clarke has spent all four of his NHL seasons with the Kings after the team selected him with the eighth-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He debuted that season, playing in nine games.
It wasn’t until his third NHL season that Clarke took control of consistent playing time on the Kings’ blue line, and has missed just four possible games - including in the postseason - since.
In 185 career NHL games, Clarke has 15 goals and 81 points.
