Maple Leafs’ Stolarz suffers lower-body injury; Carlo (LBI), Joshua (UBI) also hurt vs. Capitals

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz exited Wednesday‘s game against the Washington Capitals in the first period after suffering a lower-body injury while making a save.

Stolarz kicked out his left leg to make a stop and immediately began writhing in pain in the crease.

The 32-year-old was attended to by the team’s medical staff and was eventually helped off the ice and into the locker room.

Joseph Woll took over in net for the Maple Leafs at the 2:34 mark of the opening frame.

After the game, head coach Craig Berube would not rule Stolarz out for the rest of the season, but said that he has to undergo medical testing.

Goaltender Artur Akhtyamov will make his first NHL start for the Leafs on Thursday against the New York Islanders.

Stolarz was making his 26^th appearance of the season for the Leafs and entered the game with a 10-10-3 record and a 3.29 goals-against average.

The Edison, New Jersey native is in his second season in Toronto after he joined the team as a free agent in July of 2024.

The Leafs also announced that defenceman Brandon Carlo (lower body) and forward Dakota Joshua (upper body) were hurt during Wednesday’s game against the Capitals.

Berube said that both players will miss Thursday’s game against the Islanders.

Carlo played 12:07, took 19 shifts and registered one shot on goal before leaving the game.

The 29-year-old was skating in his 54th game of the season for the Leafs and has contributed seven assists.

Joshua had 8:30 of ice time before departing the action and collected two hits and one shot on goal against the Capitals.

The Dearborn, Michigan native has 10 goals and eight assists for the Leafs in 55 games this season, his first with the franchise.
