Navy lighthouse jersey selected by Islanders fans as 2027-28 alternates

After three rounds of voting, New York Islanders fans selected the navy lighthouse option as the team’s third jersey for the 2027-28 season.

The team’s fan-driven third jersey contest saw more than 80,000 designs submitted with eight finalists then selected for voting.

The navy lighthouse jersey defeated the same logo on an orange jersey in the first round, took down the classic fisherman logo on a navy jersey in the second round and a navy jersey with a white centre featuring the full “Islanders” on it in the final round.

“The Islanders would like to thank every fan who contributed a design, shared their feedback, and participated in the voting process to help shape the future of the franchise’s visual identity,’’ Islanders president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman said. “This contest was launched to break down traditional barriers, giving the fans a direct voice in shaping our new look. We are excited to move forward and create the full uniform that our fanbase will be proud to call theirs.”

The Islanders announced the contest last month for their 2027-28 alternates, marking the first time in NHL history that a franchise allowed its fanbase to design a sweater.

“With the winning concept finalized, the Islanders and Fanatics will begin the collaborative process of refining the digital submission into a full, NHL-ready kit,” a team release said. “During this stage, the team will review the additional design ideas submitted by fans during the voting process to continue to refine and enhance the 2027-28 official third jersey. The final version of the uniform will maintain the integrity of the winning design while meeting all league standards for its debut on the ice at UBS Arena during the 2027-28 season.”

New York missed the playoffs for a second straight year in 2025-26, finishing with a 43-34-5 record. The team replaced head coach Patrick Roy with Peter DeBoer with just four games left in the season to try to reach the playoffs but went 1-3-0 under their new head coach.

Rookie defenceman Matthew Schaefer took home the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie after scoring 23 goals with 59 points in 82 games while averaging 24:41 of ice time.
