The Florida Panthers have acquired Garnet Hathaway and a sixth-round pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for fourth- and fifth-round draft picks.
The Flyers are retaining 50 per cent of Hathaway’s $2.4 million salary as part of the trade. The 34-year-old is scheduled for unrestricted free agency next summer.
“Garnet is a physical and highly competitive player who will complement our group well,” Panthers general manager Bill Zito said. “We’re excited to add his veteran presence to our group for the upcoming season.”
Hathaway will provide a replacement for Panthers pending UFA A.J. Greer, who TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports will hit the open market next Wednesday.
The veteran winger had one goal and three points in 66 games last season, adding a goal and an assist in eight playoff games. He enjoyed significantly more offensive success in 2024-25, posting 10 goals and 21 points in 67 games.
Hathaway is another addition to the Panthers forward group after the team made a blockbuster deal to acquire Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators over the weekend.
The Panthers, however, remain without a goaltender under contract for next season as Sergei Bobrovsky continues to move closer to the free-agent market on July 1. His backup last season, Daniil Tarasov is also a pending UFA.
