The Ottawa Senators are closing in on a contract extension for restricted free agent defenceman Jordan Spence, according to Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch.

Garrioch says the contract is expected to be for four years at a total of $20 million, for annual cap hit of $5 million.

Spence, 25, registered seven goals and 31 points in 73 games with the Ottawa Senators last season with a plus-15 rating and averaging 18:44 of ice time.

He appeared in all four of the Senators’ playoff games, averaging 25:03 of ice time before his team was swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round.

The 5-foot-11, right-shot defenceman is coming off a two-year, $3 million contract that carried a cap hit of $1.5 million.

Ottawa acquired Spence in June of 2025 from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for two draft picks.

Drafted 95th overall by the Kings in 2019, Spence has 15 goals and 92 points in 253 career games split between the Kings and Senators.

The Cornwall, P.E.I, native represented Canada at the 2021 World Juniors, taking home silver.

Sens sign Bolduc, Toure to two-way deals

The Senators are also attending to other business, signing defencemen Samuel Bolduc and Djibril Toure to two-way contracts for the 2026-27 campaign.

Bolduc, 25, appeared in 56 games for the AHL’s Ontario Reign last season, recording five goals and 21 points.

Drafted 57th overall by the New York Islanders in 2019, Bolduc has four goals and eight points in 52 career NHL games, all with the Islanders. He last appeared during the 2024-25 season.

Toure, 23 had a goal and four points with the AHL’s Belleville Senators last season and also appeared in five games with the ECHL’s Allen Americans.

The 6-foot-7, right-shot blueliner was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Senators in 2023 and is coming off his entry-level contract.
