Senators D Zub departs Game 1 against Hurricanes with apparent injury

Published:

Ottawa Senators defenceman Artem Zub was forced out of their series-opening game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday with an apparent injury.

Senators head coach Travis Green spoke to reporters after the game and said that there was no update on the status of Zub.

“We’ll know more tomorrow,” Green said.

Zub ended up skating in 11 shifts and finished the game with just 7:44 of ice-time and three hits. The Hurricanes went on to win 2-0.

The Senators were already missing one defenceman headed into the game, as Tyler Kleven - who has no suited up since April 2 - was ruled out prior to puck drop.

Kleven skated in practice before the game, and Green told reporters that he may be ready to go later on in the series.

Ottawa is seeking its first playoff series victory since the 2017 playoffs, when the team made it to the Eastern Conference Final before losing to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games.
