The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Noah Ostlund to an eight-year deal worth $52.8 million, the team announced on Monday.
The contract carries an average annual value of $6.6 million and comes just ahead of Tuesday’s deadline for players to sign for eight years when re-upping with their current team. The max term will drop to seven years when re-signing on Wednesday, with a six-year max for players joining new teams.
The 22-year-old Ostlund made his NHL debut with the Sabres in the 2024-25 season, appearing in eight games, but earned a full-time role for the first time last year.
He scored 11 goals and finished with 27 points in 60 games, helping the Sabres advance to the postseason for the first time in more than a decade. In three playoff games, Ostlund notched a goal and an assist.
This contract extension continues a busy summer for the Sabres, after the team signed forward and top 2023 draft pick Zach Benson to a seven-year contract extension worth $52.5 million ($7.5 million AAV) as well as forward Beck Malenstyn to a six-year contract extension worth $17.5 million ($2.9 million AAV).
With these extensions over the summer, the Sabres are currently projected to have just over $5 million in cap space, per Spotrac, when the season begins on Oct. 1.
Originally selected with the 16th-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Sabres, Ostlund has 11 goals and 27 points in 68 career NHL games.
