The Winnipeg Jets have signed unrestricted free agent goaltender Stuart Skinner to a two-year, $7.5 million contract that carries a cap hit of $3.75 million.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger notes the signing of Skinner does not mean the Jets are nearing a deal to send star goalie Connor Hellebuyck to another team.
Skinner, 27, was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins from the Edmonton Oilers, along with defenceman Brett Kulak and a draft pick, on Dec. 12 in exchange for goaltender Tristan Jarry and prospect Sam Poulin.
He had a 23-17-9 record last season with an .888 save percentage and 2.92 goals-against average split between the Oilers and Penguins.
Skinner went 0-3 with an .873 save percentage and 3.08 GAA in the Stanley Cup playoffs as the Penguins were eliminated in the first round.
The 6-foot-4 netminder is coming off a three-year, $7.8 million contract that carried a cap hit of $2.6 million.
Drafted 78th overall by the Oilers in 2017, Skinner has a career 121-71-23 record with a .902 save percentage and 2.77 GAA.
Skinner backstopped the Oilers to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals in 2024 and 2025, going 21-16 in the process.
He represented the Oilers at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game in a season where he went 29-14-5 with a 2.75 GAA and .914 save percentage.
