Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill told reporters via Lia Assimakopoulos of the Dallas Morning News that defenceman Miro Heiskanen is having an MRI Friday and the team expects to know more this afternoon.

Heiskanen departed Thursday’s 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild with a lower-body injury and did not return.

Heiskanen suffered the injury in the opening period on a hit from Minnesota forward Ryan Hartman that knocked him into the boards. Hartman was not penalized on the play.

Head coach Glen Gulutzan did not have an update on Heiskanen after the game but told reporters he would be doubtful for Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers.

He was a minus-1 in 5:45 of action before departing. The 26-year-old has nine goals and 54 assists for 63 points in 77 games this year.

Meanwhile, forward Roope Hintz has not played in over a month because of a lower-body injury and Nill said the Stars are unsure if he will return for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Nill described Hintz as week-to-week.

He suffered the injury in a game against the Colorado Avalanche on March 6. He will finish his regular season with 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points in 53 games.

The Stars will close out the regular season with three games remaining against the Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres.
