Team Canada captain Marie-Philip Poulin suffered a lower-body injury in Monday’s Olympic preliminary round matchup against Czechia and did not return to the game.
The Canadian Olympic Committee and Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that Poulin will not play in the team’s game against the United States. She is currently listed day-to-day.
Midway through the first period on Monday, Poulin took a hard hit into the boards from Czechia’s Kristyna Kaltounkova, who received a two-minute penalty for an illegal hit.
Poulin, who was in visible discomfort after the hit, returned to the ice on the second half of Canada’s power play but quickly skated off after handling the puck. She returned to the bench and tested her right leg before heading down the tunnel to the dressing room.
She returned to the Canadian bench late in the first period but did not take another shift.
Head Coach Troy Ryan didn’t have an update on Marie-Philip Poulin’s status following Canada’s 5-1 win over Czechia.

Poulin did not come out with the team to start the second period before she was officially ruled out during the second intermission. Canada went on to win 5-1.
The 34-year-old centre had one assist in 15:32 of ice time in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Switzerland in Canada’s opening game of the tournament.
Poulin, a native of Beauceville, Que., is skating in her fifth Olympics. She has won Olympic gold medals in 2010, 2014 and 2022 and silver in 2018.
