HANGZHOU — Canada advanced to the women's quarterfinals at the world sitting volleyball championships with a 3-0 win over France on Tuesday.
Set scores were 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 in favour of the second-ranked Canadians, who will next face No. 9 Iran on Wednesday.
Team captain Heidi Peters led Canada with 12 points, while Julia Chisholm, Kerrie Buchberger and Allison Lang each added 10.
Canada also recorded 20 service aces.
“I think overall we performed well,” said Canadian player Anna Dunn. “We had some moments where we a little bit lethargic and were sluggish, but we came back into the game. I think we did really good job bouncing back from uncharacteristic mistakes. It’s great that we have such an amazing group of girls and a fantastic support staff and coaches who pull us back in together.”
Meanwhile, the Canadian men's team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-23) to the United States in a round-of-16 game.
Canada will face Croatia in a 9-16 placement game Wednesday.
The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games, with the top two men’s and women’s teams outside host United States earning direct qualification.
