Jayden Nelson is headed to the Championship.
Bolton Wanderers announced the signing of the Canada winger from Austin FC on Wednesday.
Nelson, 23, joins on a four-year deal.
“This is a big club with a lot of history and I think the people here are bringing it in the right direction,” Nelson said in a statement. “As a club, it’s very interesting to me and I was attracted by the football that we play. I think it suits me very well. I always wanted to play in the Championship. I know it’s probably one of the most competitive leagues in the world. It’s a lot of back and forth, a lot of fun games to watch and I want to be a part of that.”
A native of Brampton, Ont., Nelson is a product of the Toronto FC academy. He made his senior debut for the team in 2020. After three seasons with TFC, Nelson joined Norwegian side Rosenborg before returning to Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps. He made 23 appearances for the Whitecaps in 2025. Nelson was traded to Austin in the offseason.
Nelson ends his latest MLS tenure with four goals in 46 appearances across two seasons with Austin and Vancouver. He made 91 overall league appearances including his time with TFC. Nelson has won a Canadian Championship with both the Reds and Whitecaps.
Internationally, Nelson represented Canada at a number of youth levels before his senior debut in 2020. He has three goals in 15 appearances. Nelson played in one game at the 2026 World Cup.
Steven Schumacher’s Trotters have four points through their first two Championship matches this season. They return to action on Saturday with a visit from fellow promoted side Lincoln City.
