The Rossoneri has a new boss.
Milan announced the arrival of Ruben Amorim as manager on Tuesday.
Amorim succeeds Max Allegri who was fired, along with most of the club’s senior management, at the end of the season after Milan failed to reach the Champions League with a fifth-place finish in Serie A.
“There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan has always been one of mine,” Amorim said in a statement. “I know exactly what this club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world. It is a challenge I embrace with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colors represent. I can’t wait to get started and to experience every day the passion that drives AC Milan.”
A native of Lisbon, Amorim has been out of a job since his firing by Manchester United this past January in his second season at Old Trafford. His last days at United became contentious with Amorim publicly criticizing the club’s recruitment staff in a press conference following a 1-1 draw with Leeds. He finished his United tenure with a record of 24-18-21.
Prior to joining United in the fall of 2024, Amorim spent six seasons in Portugal with Casa Pia, Braga and Sporting. In his four seasons with Sporting, Amorim won three Primeira Liga titles and a Taca de Portugal.
As a player, Amorim was a midfielder and had a six season stint at Benfica where he won three league titles. Capped 14 times by Portugal, Amorim appeared at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
