Juventus conceded in the fourth minute of stoppage time to lose 3-2 in dramatic fashion at Sassuolo in Serie A.
Luciano Spalletti thought his team had salvaged a point when Edon Zhegrova levelled on the stroke of full-time with his second goal of the game after earlier efforts from Sebastiano Esposito and Kieron Bowie for the hosts.
Juventus made a bright start and Nico González came close to opening the scoring inside two minutes when his effort from distance struck the crossbar.
Teun Koopmeiners then had a chance to get the first of the evening after Juve won it high, but his effort was saved by Arijanet Murić.
Sassuolo also threatened before the break, with Josh Doig finding the side netting before Esposito sent an effort just wide.
The hosts took the lead after the hour mark when Nemanja Matić played Esposito through on goal and the forward found the net beyond Guglielmo Vicario.
Zhegrova, who had been introduced from the bench, equalised for Juventus after a cross from the left eventually dropped to him inside the area.
Sassuolo regained the lead late on when Bowie converted from inside the area, but Juventus responded almost immediately through Zhegrova, who equalised once again to complete his brace.
But there was still time for the hosts to have the final say as Vasilije Adžić curled an effort beyond Vicario deep in added time.
The goal sparked wild celebrations as Alberto Aquilani’s Sassuolo secured a memorable victory.
