Jonathan David appears to be headed to Spain.
Fabrizio Romano reports a verbal agreement is in place for the Canadian striker to move to Atletico Madrid from Juventus on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy.
Romano adds the buy option will be for €25m and Juventus will cover more than 50 per cent of David’s salary this season.
David could be in line to make his debut as soon as Saturday, when Atletico Madrid faces Athletic Club in La Liga action on TSN Premium.
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Ottawa, David joined Juventus just last year on a free transfer from Lille, where he became Les Dogues’ all-time leading scorer of the modern era with 109 goals over five seasons.
He endured an uneven first season in Torino, finishing his year with six goals and four assists in 30 league matches and eight goals across all competitions.
David had three goals in five games for Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer, all of which came in a hat-trick performance against Qatar in the group stage.
