The Red Devils fired Ruben Amorim on Monday after 14 months on the job. United under-18 manager Darren Fletcher is set to take the helm of the club for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Burnley and Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Brighton.
United currently sits sixth in the table on 31 points, three back of fourth-place Liverpool for the final Champions League place.
Solskjaer, who made 235 league appearances for United as a player and won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the 1999 Champions League title, led United to a Europa League Final in 2021. Following his dismissal from United, the former Norway striker spent eight months at the helm of Besiktas in 2025.
Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 after 26 years, United has employed six permanent managers. Fletcher will become the fourth former United player to serve as interim manager following in the footsteps of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs.
