Karl Darlow has joined Manchester United.

The Wales goalkeeper comes aboard on a free transfer from Leeds.

The 35-year-old Darlow is expected to serve as backup to No. 1 Senne Lammens. Veteran Tom Heaton is also under contract with the team.

Darlow’s arrival means Turkiye keeper Altay Bayindir is expected to leave the club imminently with Andre Onana remaining on loan at Trabzonspor for another season.

A native of Northampton, England, Darlow spent the three seasons at Elland Road. He made 22 Premier League appearances last season and 24 across all competitions. Darlow previously spent time at Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

“I am extremely proud to sign for Manchester United,” Darlow said in a statement. “I’m joining an excellent group of goalkeepers and I’m really looking forward to all pushing each other to ensure that we maintain the highest standards, which this club demands.”

Internationally, Darlow has made 15 appearances for the Dragons since his debut in 2024. He was eligible to play for the side through his grandfather, former Wales and Newcastle forward Ken Leek.

Darlow marks United’s second arrival of the transfer window, joining Brazil midfielder Andrey Santos, who was unveiled on Monday. Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans is also set to join the club imminently from Aston Villa.

United’s preseason schedule kicks off on Saturday with a friendly against Championship side Wrexham in Helsinki.
